September Updates:

Important Reminder of the upcoming public meeting of vital importance to those members wishing to be heard on the subject of lake shoreland protection legislation. Please plan to attend the meeting listed below as the information gathered at the meeting may well become part of future legislation that will affect all lakeshore property owners.
Public Meeting Sept. 19-The Vermont State Legislature Lake Shoreland Protection Commission has set the time and location of the Addison County Meeting. The meeting will be held Thursday, September 19, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Middlebury, American Legion Hall, Boardman Street (Behind G. Stone Motors).
The Vermont General Assembly established the Lake Shoreland Protection Commission in Section E.126.1 of Act 50 of 2013 in order to:

  • Provide information to the public regarding the current health of waters of the State, including the results of the 2012 Agency of Natural Resources’ State Water Quality Remediation, Implementation, and Funding Report;
  • Inform the public regarding the regulation of State waters, including requirements the State may need to meet in implementing the cleanup plan for Lake Champlain;
  • Summarize for the public the status of efforts to address and improve the quality of all State waters, and how regulation of shoreland activity impacts water quality; and
  • Take public input regarding the regulation of disturbance, clearing, and creation of impervious surfaces in the shorelands of lakes

Further information on the meeting and a list of House and Senate Members who will be attending the Addison County meeting can be found by following the link below. https://leg2.vermont.gov/sites/legislature/LSP/default.aspx
Auction News: Many thanks to Stephanie Foley and the outstanding team that volunteered to work on this year’s annual auction. What an amazing job they did. A total of $8,720.00 was raised for the Milfoil Program!! This is by far the largest amount ever raised at the annual auction. The team members included: Lorraine Abramson, Jim Foley, Nancy Malcolm, Karen Rockow, Kathryn Thibeaux, and Lynn Peck. *A list of the generous donors of items offered at the auction can be found below. Without these donations from individuals and businesses there would be no auction and we are grateful to count them as friends of the LDFLA.
Help stop the spread of Purple Loosestrife: Purple loosestrife has recently been found in three different locations in yards and on the shore of Lake Dunmore. Please take a few minutes to follow the link below to learn more about this invasive plant and follow the recommendations for removal. Let’s stop this plant NOW before it can become a serious pest to our ecologically very valuable shallow water and wetlands.

Help us expand our email coverage: The Association recognizes that only a single email address per membership may leave family members and key friends without the ability to receive our information sent by email. We are working to fix this. If you have additional email addresses you would like to receive information from the Association, jot them down and send to Kate Williams at: kate_ret@yahoo.com . We will happily add them to our list.
Stay Informed: Check out the LDFLA website at: http://ldfla.com/ and the LDFLA Blog at: http://ldfla.com/blog/ to keep informed of events and find articles of interest to the lakes’ community.
