The loon on the nest late this afternoon was very hard to see, in spite of what this picture shows. We had to get quite far north and look in at the site from a long angle to be able to see behind those bushes on the left. They are much thicker than last year and hide the nesting loon quite well from anything looking straight in.
When we went back late this evening, both were off the nest and preening just south of the island. The same long angle shot of the empty nest shows what appears to be egg# 1. I’m not starting the countdown for another couple days though, after #2 has time to arrive. Mike
