The first planned herbicide treatment is scheduled to happen this Wednesday June 15th at 8:00 AM. The advised lake water restrictions include:
NO USE OF LAKE DUNMORE OR FERN LAKE WATERS FOR ANY PURPOSE ON THE DAY(S) OF OR DAY AFTER TREATMENT TO INCLUDE BOATING, FISHING, SWIMMING, HOUSEHOLD USE, OR IRRIGATION.
SWIMMING/WADING, BOATING AND FISHING MAY RESUME 48 HOURS AFTER TREATMENT. That will be Friday morning.
WATER FOR DOMESTIC USE (other than flushing) OR IRRIGATION IS PROHIBITED UNTIL NOTIFICATION IS RECEIVED THAT IT IS SAFE FOR SUCH USE. As I understand it, it is not expected to be long but lab results must be in hand. If you need drinking water, it’s available at Kampersville.
The highlighted info above is from the signs at the end of each camp road. If there is a discrepancy in what is above and what is on the signs, the signs are right. There are also phone #’s on the signs if you have questions. The one question I am comfortable answering is that my limited research indicated that the herbicide presents no danger to loons, fish, or me, and that I am very comfortable with its use to try to stem the spread of the milfoil.
